A Month In: Here Are Our Biggest Struggles So Far

We’re a month into this adventure, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: I have too many ideas—and I bet you do, too! Being a maker means an endless flow of inspiration, but it also means an endless struggle to keep up. If you’re anything like us, your mental list of ideas is a mile long, and your Pinterest boards are overflowing. Creativity is a gift, but it can also be overwhelming. And don’t even get me started on holiday crafts—by the time we finally settle on a project, the holiday is practically here! (Get ready for my St. Patrick’s Day product drops… LOL.) Here’s how we’ve been trying to manage the flood of inspiration without drowning in it.

1. Pinterest: Your Best Friend

Instead of trying to remember everything, we pin ideas to our Pinterest board. Revisiting them later helps us decide which are truly worth pursuing.

2. Prioritize What Matters

Not every idea needs to happen right now. We focus on what excites us most and makes sense for our business, so we don’t get stuck spinning in circles. We also try to pick four projects to make each month to keep things manageable.

3. Keep an ‘Idea Parking Lot’

We store ideas we love but don’t have time for in a running list. This keeps us from feeling like we’re abandoning great concepts while staying focused on current projects.

4. Set Small Goals

Big ideas can be paralyzing. Breaking them into small steps—like sketching designs or setting a timeline—makes them more manageable and helps build momentum.

5. Beware of Overbuying

Too many ideas often lead to too many supplies. I’m guilty of this—especially with Joann Fabrics’ going-out-of-business discounts 😭. It’s tempting to stock up on fabric, wood, and every craft supply imaginable, but we’re learning to stick to a rule: shop our stash first and only buy what we need for upcoming projects.

6. Let Go of Some Ideas

Not every idea needs to come to life. Some are stepping stones to better concepts. Letting go of projects that no longer excite us has been a game-changer.

7. Find Balance & Enjoy the Process

A million ideas is a sign of a creative mind—and we are celebrating it! But finding balance between dreaming, making, and finishing projects is key. Our ultimate goal is to stay creative, find what works, and keep it simple.
